Our philosophy

Just as Consteia itself is an invitation to experience time differently — not as compulsion but as a dance with the cosmos — so too do we approach your data. We believe in transparency, respect and minimal collection: only what is necessary, only where you have consciously chosen it.

We do not believe in a business model based on your data. Consteia is built for connection and awareness, not for profit through surveillance. What is good for you, is good for us.

What we do (and especially: what we do NOT do)

  • Give you the choice to store astrological data locally in your own browser
  • Use an external geocoding service to convert a place name to coordinates
  • Be transparent about everything we do with data

  • Place tracking cookies
  • Store personal data on our servers
  • Sell, share or rent your data to third parties
  • Use Google Analytics or similar tracking tools
  • Track you across the internet
  • Use advertising networks
  • Collect data without your knowledge

JavaScript: A tool with a conscience

JavaScript is a programming language — neutral in itself, like a hammer or a pen. What matters is the intention behind it. Initially, people made tools to serve them — that same technology evolved into a means to build homes, create art, help people.

JavaScript on Consteia is used to make your experience more beautiful and personal — we choose warmth. JavaScript is our tool; our intention makes it ethical.

You can disable JavaScript. The consequence: some interactive features will not work. But:

  • All content on Consteia remains accessible
  • Want the full experience? JavaScript enhances it — but never at the expense of your privacy

Cookies and local storage

1. Essential cookies (always active)

These are strictly necessary for the basic functioning of our website:

  • Language preference (nl/en/de/...)
  • Theme setting (if applicable)
  • Retention period: 1 year

2. Functional cookies (only on your request)

If you use the astrological features of Consteia and choose to save data:

  • Astrological data (birth data, chart preferences)
  • Storage: Locally in your browser, encrypted
  • Access: Only your browser on this device
  • We never see this data
  • Retention period: To be determined by you — you can delete it at any time

External services we use

Geocoding API (place name to coordinates)

What happens:

  • The geocoding service only sees the place name you enter
  • No personal data is linked to this request
  • We use a cache so that frequently requested cities are not re-sent each time
  • No account or profile is created with the external service

Why this service: Converting a place name to geographic coordinates is necessary for astrological calculations. We have deliberately chosen a service with minimal data processing.

Social media: Share without being shared

If you share content from Consteia via social media:

  • We use no tracking pixels or share buttons that load third-party scripts
  • Any data exchange happens entirely on your initiative
  • You decide what you share and with whom

Your rights (GDPR)

Right of access

You have the right to know what data we have about you. Since we store almost nothing, this will in most cases simply mean: nothing.

Right to rectification

If data is incorrect, you have the right to have it corrected.

Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")

You can request deletion of any data we hold about you.

Right to restriction of processing

You can request that we temporarily stop processing your data.

Right to data portability

You have the right to receive your data in a machine-readable format.

Right to object

You can object to the processing of your personal data.

Children and privacy: Everyone welcome, no one exploited

Our protective principles

  • We do not knowingly collect data from minors
  • No profiles are created
  • The site is designed with minimal data collection

Active protection

Consteia welcomes younger users interested in self-discovery and cosmic connections. We recommend that children discuss local data storage with a parent or guardian — not because it is dangerous, but because transparency is a good habit.

For children themselves

Your astrological data is stored only on your own device. No one else can see it — not us, not anyone — just you.

For parents

If your child uses Consteia: the data stays on the device. There is no account, no profile, no data from your child on our servers. Questions? Please contact us.

Security

  • HTTPS encryption for all communication
  • Encrypted local storage
  • Minimal data collection (what you do not have, you cannot lose)
  • No central database with personal data
  • Regular security updates

In the event of a data breach: we will notify the relevant authorities within 72 hours and inform affected users as quickly as possible.

Retention periods

  • Essential cookies: 1 year
  • Local astrological data: Until you delete it
  • Geocoding cache: For efficiency (not personally linked to you)
  • Correspondence: As long as necessary for the context

Changes to this statement

If we make significant changes to this privacy statement, we will announce this on the website. The date of the last update is always at the top of this document. We recommend reviewing this statement occasionally.
